Programming the radio

[Yikes]

I've got the software for the F121 and was sitting down to program it, but it appears the thing needs to be powered up to do it. Do I need to buy a power supply of some sort for this, or am I going to need a laptop to program it in the rig? What do you guys do? Please excuse my ignorance here.

A 12 volt battery is all you need. Hopefully the wife doesn't have a cow bringing it in the house. Hide it in a box.
