Hello every one. I am new to the site. I have been wheeling for a few years, and mud, and rocks are not really my thing. I have always enjoy going fast on trails. Well any ways. I have a 1977 bronco I am build up. And some day when I move back out west and get settled in, I would like to maybe do some events.
Well here are some pictures of my junk.
Rear suspension and 9in, with 4.56 gears and a detroit. I will be changing this to 1/4 elliptical suspension, and get rid of the coil springs, and maybe run some bilstein shocks.

The drivetrain is a nv3550 and dana20, I am using a centerforce cluth.

The engine is a 347 stroker, PBM full 1.6 roller rockers, Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads with after market springs and a roller TFS roller cam. The block has been decked, square bored, and honed with deck plates. It is bored .030 over, new SRP forged pistons. The compression ratio is 9:5 to 1, The crank is an Eagle 5140 steel crank and has a 3400 stroke the rods are floated 5.400 SIR eagles. With a 670 Holley truck avenger, weiand stealth intake. Full MSD ingition. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s35/greasypigeon/IMG_0886.jpg
The front axle is a dana 44 with 4.56 gears a lock right. I am using a set of wild horses 5.5 springs , and a set of extended radius arms. I'll run this front set up till I brake some thing. It does all right on the roads and trails. So no need in changing something if it isn't broken.
And might a well throw in some dash bling. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s35/greasypigeon/P1000308.jpg

Yep, 77 was the only year bronco to come with the doors. All the other had caps.

Nice bronco. That dash is nice and clean and that motor is flat out bitchen. One question though: why the desire for quarter elliptical springs?

My rear is all ready 3 linked. So I all I would have to do it remove the coil springs, and mounts, Fad some mounts for the elliptic springs. And beef up the link mounts. I think I would be easier to make the swith to elliptic suspension then I would be a to go back to a full spring. For that I would have to weld on spring perches, shackle months, Front spring mounts, and cut off all my old link mount. And plus I can pick up a some elliptic springs from my buddies old rock crawler for cheap.

Are you going for Class 3 legal?

That's a good looking Bronco, and glad you found the site. It's not really a Bronco site, but there are a bunch here! There's a lot of work already in that rear 3 link. A lot of people find that it takes a ton of reinforcing to hold the fixed end of a quarter elliptic spring, something the EB is not known for at the rear of the frame, something you have probably already thought about. After reading your reply again, are you thinking of mounting the quarter elliptics in front of the axle?

I am trying to keep it class 3 legal. So I have to use leaf springs. So that means I have to lose the coils. I am not really sure how I'm going to mount them. I plan on tacking them in place and cycle the suspension a few times and see what way I like better front or rear. I have seen both and I'm sure alot of it depends on driving style and personal preference. Also if I use johnny joints, It would help reduce some stress on the spring pack by not twisting them and warping them and so that might not put so much stress on the mounts. But this won't happen until the fall when I pcs to Fort Bliss and get settled in and find a place to set up shop. So right now I am doing alot of planning and getting parts.

Right on. I was just kind of curious why you would do that over coil overs thinking maybe you just didn't want to cut into the tub but doing it to keep it class 3 legal is a far better reason:D
It'll definitely be cool to see a 1/4 elliptical set up again though.

Well nothing has really happen over then past few months. I went wheeling a few times out here in El Paso, and i blew up my pressure plate, cracked that damn thing in two. I don't think it was up to the task of my heavy foot. I was hoping the Army would let me live off post cause so I can have a place of my own and work out of it, but not this time. So my project has been put on hold for some time. There is not really a huge race community out here, alot of crawlers but nothing race wise. Unless some on here on this board would like to help join in this dream and project of mine, with some work shop space.

Nice truck. Do yourself a favor, don't turn it into a race car. Coil overs are far easier to mount and maintain than any leaf spring. Your rock crawler buddy's springs will not work for high speed use. Your truck is much more valuable like it is now. I don't mean to be a buzz kill, but if you do want to race, start with a a full size Ford that deserves to be cut up.
