Class 3 / 2000 Bronco

Howdy Gents,

Mike from San Diego here, thought I would give a small intro. Just got my first Bronco, to replace my Baja Jeep that is too old to run. This Bronco was raced two times about 10 years ago (Parker 425) and has done little since then. She has good bones and little wear. Ford Racing Crate motor with less then 8k on it.

My plan is to work with Jeff from Giant Motorsports and install his link killer system on the rears, sway bars front and rear, add another shock to the front, it can use more horsepower, clean it up...Prep it, Race it. Score/BITD Class 2000 and Class 3.

What say you?

Very Nice looking Rig!

What is that size of the tubing on your main cage & or will SCORE require you change if you want to race SCORE?

Thanks!

The main cage is 2" which complies with SCORE, for over 4000lbs. as I read the rules. And, it passed tech with Arizona Off-Road Promotions before. So I assume its all good?
It was sponsored by Monster at one time. Yes, one of my goals is race Baja 1000 or 500. But, before that some smaller easier races, SNORE, VORRA.

I cannot figure out why Class 3 is so small? So many Jeep Speed, and Ultra 4 rigs.

Good question, I suspect it was due to the restrictions in the suspension?
But I've not heard about much growth since they've open that up.

Nice Bronco

You have the right idea in terms of what classes you can run. I have one more, and that's Vintage because my Blazer doesn't have coil-overs. One of the reasons why Class 3 is smaller has been changed, the opening of the rules to allow coil-overs for all brands. But there is one issue without an easy solution. JeepSpeed, siphons off the Jeeps that would otherwise be eligible for the class, they offer a good program.
Although it's a long way to travel, a group of class 3's will be racing a 250 mile event, an hour outside of Reno, in late July. Entry is $350

Yes, I want to run the Vorra race in July, that will be a good run for me and this rig. Very long drive from San Diego....so there is that.

I forgot about Vintage, it can run Norra and Score Vintage also, thanks.
Yes, JeepSpeed is a good deal, to bad they don't allow a Class 3 non-jeep class.

Second, what needs to be done to this Bronco to make it competitive again?
Cheers!

what needs to be done

first and foremost, is to get fresh harnesses. You won't need a HANS device at the vorra race, but is now required by many others. Score now requires dot lights in front for transit. BITD has a bs roll over valve for the fuel cell. Of course you have to now have a yellow light facing rearward, and they now want extinguishers mounted on the down bars on the outside of the cab, in addition to the ones in the cab. If you run Vintage, then you need a blue light in rear.

Thanks Retro! Nice to have help.
It has all the above already, save the blue light., and a Hans. And, it does need new harness and nets. My question was really about making it faster. My first thought is to install Gaints li k killer set up. I wanted to keep it leaf as to be able to run 2000, as I don't think a Bronco 105" Wheel base, can hang with 1450 anymore. It was a 1450 years ago. .
What about extended TTB?

Bronco update

Ken Leavitt’s Anger Issues Bronco is a good example of an updated Cl3. He went one step further than you want because he linked the rear. He widened the track width over his early setup. Dave Moore’s and the Straightiff/Wilson are the extreme end of current race Broncos.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check each of them out.

Due to rules I cannot notch the frame for a lowered stance and more uptravel. However widening the axles is on the to do list, for sure.

Todays project: (who does this? Maddness!)

Bronco building

The Straightiff/Wilson Bronco is in El Cajon, and so are its builders. Glen or Chris would be happy to share their path and experiences with getting the most out of ttb’s.
