73 commando short course to street

I picked up a class 3 vintage racer cause I just love cars, period. I have been Making light mods to make it street legal, have added a fold down windscreen that I had to narrow and customize the hinges to match the body, ( original would have been a fixed style) added some plastic wheel arches, addition of the lighting kit at rear and front, (kept with the KC's) turn signals, new dash for gauges including a fuel level sender added to the fuel cell, a complete rewrire ( painless) and a removable steering wheel so I can get in and out of this racer whilst still retaining my dignity.

it was built as a close course racer by Jerry Bundy of CT, he had several vehicles as I understand it racing in several classes and this was the one he raced himself to a ripe old age. I believe the jeep was converted and raced in the 90's but may have been a little earlier. Jerry won a good number of races around the 2000's Era in this jeep at Crandon Wi, but understand it also raced somewhere in Mi?
I know for sure it raced in the johnsonville sausage Formula 4x4 at Crandon and may have won in 2002.
Anyone have any photos or stories on #316 I would love to hear them.

Probably...
I came across this TIm Moeller video of 2008 formula 4x4 race at Crandon.
The jeep was running behind the camera. Looks like Tims rig had the straights.
Looks like a real blast...tempting!!!!

The Jeep could race NORRA, but it would require the same things that we did to my Blazer to make it a desert racer, like a larger fuel cell, springs, lights, radio. The reality is that you could run an entire season in the Midwest for the cost of doing one NORRA event. I'm glad the Jeep found a good home. I posted some stuff about the Jeep on RDC.

I did see the other posts, Thanks Retroblazer.

It does look like racing the jeep would take a large time and financial commitment.

Didn't mean to offend.....
This is a great site and be an absolute crime to shut it down. I imagine it takes a lot of commitment on your part to keep it up and running and my hats off to you for it.
I am interested to get history on my jeep is why I am a member of other forums.
Who knows, might send someone new this way like it did me.

It was sarcasm point at Chris not you.

But to be honest this site is nothing compared to RDC & I understand that but at one time this site was GREAT with so much traffic pretty much everyone in class 3 were on here inter acting & wearing the Sits stickers on their race rigs.

The Chupacabra team from TJ Baja Ca. actually made the very 1st sticklers & gave me one in Ensenada.

Was so cool.....

But these days as you'll notice, theres not much traffic & to keep paying for an almost dead site seems almost pointless.

This one & my other site www.thewebwheeler.com is pretty much also dead.

I just keep putting off taking it off line.......
I have them saved on a DVD, in case i do & decide to bring them back I'd be able to reload the old post & etc..

Anyways , good luck with your build & finding out its history.

All good

Let's not screw up this thread by giving me grief for posting. Last I looked I have been one of the most loyal and active posters on this site.

The bottom line is times change... That's life.
I have always had a passion for motor sports, I have petrol (gas) running through my veins. Unfortunately coming from Europe I had not had the opportunity to race off road jeeps in America but dam wish I had.
Yes, the sun probably is setting on vintage racing but that's what is appealing to me.. IT IS Vintage from a time that will never come back.

Reality is the internal combustion engine will NOT be available to purchase in a new car ANYWHERE in the world after 2040......period!! I am Not sure about you but the only thing I ever intend to drive powered by an electric motor is a wheelchair....

Guess I am just trying to make the point to stick with it.... enjoy what it was, and is, share it with the people who do still care and those who have a listening ear for whatever reason and live life to the full.
